Eisteddfod Art Competition 2024
Fri 12 Apr 2024Eisteddfod Art Competition 2024
As you may be aware, this year’s National Eisteddfod will be held in Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd from 3rd - 10th August. As part of the Eisteddfod’s ‘Harddu’ (beautifying) project, local primary school pupils have been invited to create artwork, with the winning designs being displayed at Pontypridd Library from 14th June until 11th August.
We would like to invite your child to take part in the competition by creating a picture on the theme ‘Croeso’ (Welcome). The artwork should intertwine elements of the area and the main features of the Maes (the site where the Eisteddfod will be held). How your child presents their work is entirely up to them - as long as it is colourful and bilingual or has no language at all.
A winner from each area - Rhondda, Cynon and Taf - will be selected by an external judge and the winners will be invited to an unveiling ceremony in Pontypridd Library on 14th June.
The winning schools, along with the 2nd and 3rd in each area will receive a 3m x 1m banner with their design to be displayed outside their school.
We would love to have as many entries from Pontyclun Primary School as possible! If your child would like to enter, please could their completed artwork be returned to their class teacher by Monday 13th May.
Diolch yn fawr am eich cefnogaeth - Thank you very much for your support.,
Mrs Bishop and Mrs Maidment (Welsh coordinators)

Important Breakfast Club information
Fri 22 Mar 2024As you will be aware, the Council had planned to introduce a charge for the childcare provided in advance of free breakfast clubs. These proposed charges did not include learners eligible to free school meals, and free breakfast clubs would continue to be offered.
Whilst the implementation date for these changes was intended to be the summer term 2024, plans have been temporarily paused. The breakfast club provision in your school will remain unchanged for now and will continue to be delivered as normal.
Further information will follow next term.
Kind regards
Gaynor Davies

Important information regarding UPFSM school meal provision - Please read
Wed 20 Mar 2024Following the successful roll-out of UPFSM to Reception, Years 1-4, and eligible Nursery age pupils in Rhondda Cynon Taf, the next phase is to commence from 8th April 2024, where the offer will be extended to include all Year 5 and 6 pupils and eligible Nursery pupils.
- Eligible Nursery pupils are those who attend local authority* Nursery provision on a full-time basis (morning and afternoon sessions) in accordance with the Councils admissions policy: -
- All pupils aged 4 years, between 1st September 2023 and 31st December 2023, will be eligible for a free school meal from January 2024.
- All pupils aged 4 years, between 1st January 2024 and 31st March 2024, will be eligible for a free school meal from April 2024.
- All pupils aged 4 years, between 1st April 2024 and 31st August 2024, will be eligible for a free school meal from September 2024.
Primary school meals will also increase to £2.85 a day from Monday 8th April 2024. (only applicable to Nursery pupils not yet eligible for Universal Primary Free School Meals) and payments are still payable in advance weekly. Please see attached letter
Please can we remind all parents/carers, that if their child does not receive Free School Meals even if their child(ren) receive a Universal Primary Free School Meal (currently being rolled out ) and they think they may be entitled, to complete the online application form on the Council’s website (Free School meals - Apply for free school meals | Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council (rctcbc.gov.uk). Only by making a successful application for Free School Meals will they be eligible to automatically receive other support for their child(ren) for example a possible entitlement to a Schools Essential Grant for items such as uniform, kit and stationery.
All schools across Wales will then be entitled to additional funding to provide education and support these children. If eligible families don’t apply for a free school meal through the council it will affect the amount of funding from Welsh Government that the schools receive, meaning the school has less money than it is entitled to in order to provide education and support to your children.

Local Authority Attendance Procedures - Please Read
Thu 14 Mar 2024Reminders
Following our termly meeting with the Attendance and Welfare Service, a few points were raised with the school with regards to attendance. These being:-
- If your child attends a Doctors/Dentist/Hospital and or any other appointment during the school day, please can you provide us with a copy of the appointment card/letter/email and or allow us to see the text message, which we will note.
- If the appointment is during the school day please be aware that your child should be in school prior to the appointment and return afterward the appointment has finished.
- For those children who are swimming, if your child is unable to swim due to illness or other reason, they still need to be in school for morning registration. If pupils are arriving when the swimmers are returning they will be marked as an unauthorised absence for that morning.
- Children attending external examinations such as Ballet/Music exams need to provide evidence of time and venue or otherwise absence will be classed as unauthorised.
The school will be reviewed again in the Summer term and the above bullet points will be looked at carefully. Parents/Carers not adhering to the local authority guidance may be contacted by the Attendance and Welfare Service.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding in these matters
