- Pontyclun Community Council Poppy Pebbles
The Community Council have asked us to let you know about their Poppy Pebbles for this year's Act of Remembrance. They are hoping to get enough painted pebbles to line the river walk by Ynys Ddu. Please see the attached leaflet for full details.
- Poppy Appeal
From Monday 2nd November 2020 we will be selling poppies, slap bands and other merchandise on behalf of the Royal British Legion as usual. Pupils can bring in money for poppies and for slap bands if they wish and Miss Harwood will be taking the box around the classes to keep it COVID-19 safe. All items are £1.
- Dinner Money Arrears
Can all dinner money arrears be cleared please. Accounts are sent off to the authority every half term and we will have to refuse dinners to any pupil whose balance is in arrears by £20. Dinners are now £2.55 per day and are to be paid in advance. If you do not have your child's unique 10 digit number for their dinner account, please email the school office admin.pontyclunprimary@rctcbc.gov.uk so we can email it to you.
- Parent Governor Election
Thank you to those parents who returned nominations for the Parent Governor vacancy. Due to the number of nominations, we will be holding an election after half term. This will be done by paper ballot with each parent being entitled to one vote. Ballots are to be returned to your child's class in a sealed envelope and your child will be able to post them into the ballot box. These will then be collected at the time and date prescribed on the ballot papers and you will be notified of the results in due course. Please be aware that the system is delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Thank you in advance for your patience.
- Half-Term
Friday 23rd October 2020 is the last day of half term for our pupils. We are all back in school on Monday 2nd November 2020.
Have a restful half-term,

School update and letter from RCT Director of Education and Inclusion services
Tue 20 Oct 2020In light of the announcement yesterday and the increase in restrictions, can we please remind all parents / carers that there are strict guidelines to follow when on the school premises.
A couple of points to re-iterate are:
- When queuing to gain access to the school or making your way around the school, a 2m social distance should be adhered to at all times. Please wear a mask if you feel the need to do so.
- The INFANT gates are open for morning drop off from 8.40am. Please do not access the premises until 8.40am as classes are not open and staff are not ready to accept your child until this time. The Nursery class is open from 9am for drop off as usual.
- Access to the Juniors from the Infants is via the one-way system, out of the drive in gates and back in through the pedestrian gate. DO NOT cut through the car park directly into the school yard as this is a STAFF ONLY access and unfairly jumps any queue.
- The JUNIOR gate is open for afternoon collection from 3.20pm. Please do not access the premises until 3.20pm as classes and staff are not ready to dismiss your child until this time.
- Parents / carers are to drop and go following the one way system.
- Year 6 parents are to walk around the edge of the yard to collect their children and not cut across it diagonally.
- Please do not attempt to access any class room areas / ramps /steps. We are restricting access in order to maintain COVID-19 restrictions for the safety of your child(ren), our staff and yourselves. Please email staff in the first instance or if urgent, leave a message on the school answer phone. Parent / carer access to the school buildings, except for entry to the school office, is strictly by appointment only.
- Lastly, please do not let your child(ren) play on the school equipment or ride bikes and scooters across the yards either before or after school. This is a matter of health and safety for your child, our pupils, yourselves and staff.
Please see attached a letter from RCT outlining the restrictions to be implemented from 6pm Friday the 23rd of October 2020.
Thank you for your continuing support in these ever changing times.

A message from Councillor Andrew Morgan, leader RCT Council
Fri 16 Oct 2020Dear Parents/Guardians
As a Council, we recognise this is an anxious time for our communities with the continuing of restrictions on daily life and increasing rates of Covid-19 again throughout RCT. We are respectfully asking and reminding parents/guardians to help minimise the transmission of coronavirus at every opportunity, including by continuing to observe social distancing outside school grounds and by wearing a face mask if possible, in line with the Council’s advice to residents issued on Thursday, Sept 10th.
Whilst we do recognise that it is important that children are able to socialise responsibly and outdoor activity is vital for their wellbeing, we are urging all parents and guardians to please be mindful of where your children are, who they are with and what they are doing when outside of school, particularly in evenings and on weekends. Restricting the number of social contacts, maintaining social distancing and promoting effective hygiene are essential to reducing the risk of transmission.
You will be aware that there has been a significant increase in positive cases across Wales and Rhondda Cynon Taf over recent weeks and each and every one of us needs to play our part in minimising the spread of coronavirus in our communities. Please take extra care and stay safe.
Councillor Andrew Morgan
Leader RCT Council
