Christmas Celebrations 2020
Fri 27 Nov 2020Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to hold our usual Christmas concerts and celebrations this year. The children will instead be performing songs, poems and activities within their class/year group bubble. Each day, throughout December, we will upload a different year groups performance to our Advent Calendar on the Christmas Celebrations page (which can be found under the 'Children' tab) on our school website for everyone to view, right up to the 25th December. The link can also be found here Christmas Advent Calendar
The children are really enjoying getting into the festive spirit and we hope that you will enjoy viewing these at home with your children and families.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during these challenging times.

Face Coverings - Primary Update from Welsh Government
Tue 24 Nov 2020Wearing of face coverings (primary)
The Welsh Government has updated its guidance on the use of face coverings in schools.
To reduce the risk of transmission amongst parents and relatives, please wear masks when visiting school, on the school yard / playground and at drop-off and collection areas. Maintaining clear social distance at the school gates will also reduce risk and set a good example to pupils. Only one adult should be dropping off and picking up pupils to aid social distancing.
If you have a secondary school aged child, be aware that face coverings should now be worn by year 7 and above pupils in all areas outside the classroom and be worn on dedicated school transport for year 7 and up.
Please follow these guidelines and encourage your child to follow theirs too.
Along with regular hand washing/sanitising and social distancing, this will reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 at school as far as possible.
They have been made stronger to keep you and your families as safe as possible. They are based on new advice from Welsh Government’s Technical Advisory Group, as we learn more about the way COVID-19 is transmitted.

Thank you for your help in doing all we can – together - to keep ourselves and others safe.

Even though we could not attend Remembrance Sunday as we have in the past, today the school laid a wreath at the memorial. To watch a short video, please click here Armistice Day video
We are also proud of our children that took part in the Pontyclun Remembers service. To watch this you can search on Facebook - ‘Pontyclun Remembers 2020’, on Google or YouTube Sunday 8th November 2020 - 11:15am - Pontyclun Remembers
A very big thank you for your support for the Poppy Appeal - we had to ask the British Legion for many more items this year!
Children in Need
Many thanks to those who have already donated to our Just Giving page for Children in Need. So far we have raised £341 so far! Much appreciated.

As a reminder, children can wear rainbow T shirts, rainbow colours, Pudsey items etc. Children will be doing lots of challenges and activities in class.
We are all looking forward to a fun day.

Reminders and Children in Need
Thu 05 Nov 2020Just a few reminders in these difficult times:
Procedures
- When queuing to gain access to the school or making your way around the school, a 2m social distance should be adhered to at all times. Please wear a mask if you feel the need to do so.
- The INFANT gates are open for morning drop off from 8.40am. Please do not access the premises until 8.40am as classes are not open and staff are not ready to accept your child until this time.
- Please note that the Nursery class opens at 9.00 am for drop off.
- Access to the Juniors from the Infants is via the one-way system, out of the drive in gates and back in through the pedestrian gate. DO NOT cut through the car park directly into the school yard as this is a STAFF ONLY access and unfairly jumps any queue.
- The JUNIOR gate is open for afternoon collection from 3.20pm. Please do not access the premises until 3.20pm as classes and staff are not ready to dismiss your child until this time.
- Parents / carers are to drop and go following the one way system.
- Year 6 parents are to walk around the edge of the yard to collect their children and not cut across it diagonally.
- Please do not attempt to access any class room areas / ramps /steps. We are restricting access in order to maintain COVID-19 restrictions for the safety of your child(ren), our staff and yourselves. Please email staff in the first instance or if urgent, leave a message on the school answer phone.
- Parent / carer access to the school buildings, except for entry to the school office, is strictly by appointment only.
- Lastly, please do not let your child(ren) play on the school equipment or ride bikes and scooters across the yards either before or after school. This is a matter of health and safety for your child, our pupils, yourselves and staff
Children in need- Friday 13th November
Things will be very different this year! Whilst children will continue to do Pudsey activities in class, we will not have stalls or collect money in school. Instead, there will be a different system in place to support this charity.
Children in Need are asking schools to become ‘cashless’. To support this, we have set up a Children in Need Just Giving page so we can still raise money.
Details are. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/PontyclunPrimarySchool
Our theme this year is rainbow colours, so children can wear rainbow T-shirts, or choose colours from the rainbow to wear to school.
A fun day in these challenging times!
Thank you again for your patience and co-operation.
