Our Vision
Our Vision
Our Curriculum at Pontyclun Primary School is driven by our school's vision, mission statement, strategic aims, and values. We aim to deliver an ambitious and inclusive curriculum for every pupil. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), is becoming embedded in the school (we hold the Bronze Award) and we believe pupils learn best when we incorporate their voices into the life of the school. Our motto ‘Climb high, Climb higher’- ‘Dring yn Uchel, Dring yn Uwch’ - aligns with this ethos. The planning of curriculum and sequences of lessons are progressive and build upon previous knowledge, layering new knowledge, skills, and experiences on secure foundations. Our curriculum vision is rooted in Welsh values and culture and is bespoke to our school. By providing a broad and balanced curriculum, we develop cross-curricular learning to develop learners in readiness for lifelong learning.
When our pupils leave, we want them to be SMARTIES
- Secure
- Motivated
- Ambitious
- Resilient
- Team players
- Independent
- Engaged
- Social
Assessment is integral to ensuring all learners are supported to make the appropriate progress along the learning continuum. At Pontyclun Primary, we ensure that our assessment arrangements support individual learners on an ongoing, day-to-day basis. We identify each learner's strengths, achievements, areas for improvement and any barriers to learning to inform the next steps in learning. We incorporate opportunities for discussions with each learner to identify their next steps to move their learning forward and identify appropriate support or challenge. We strive to ensure that assessment is embedded into everyday practice.
