Nursery Parents Meetings Information - Oct 2024
Tue 01 Oct 2024Parents meetings will be held on Tuesday 22nd October 2024 from 1.10pm.
These appointments are only for those pupils who joined us in our Pre Nursery intake earlier in 2024. Those new Nursery pupils who joined in September 2024 will have an opportunity for a parents meeting in the Summer term 2025. As always though, should you have any queries, please do contact Mrs John - beth.john@pontyclunprimary.rctcbc.cymru
The appointments will take place in the Nursery classroom.
We use an online booking system called 'School Cloud' which allows you to choose your own appointment times with teachers and receive an email confirming your appointments.
As usual there is only one appointment per child and it will be for a maximum duration of 10 minutes. These appointments are intended as a general catch up on your child's wellbeing, progress to date and next steps. At the end of your 10 minutes, should you require further discussion with the class teacher, please email them directly to arrange a convenient time.
The School Cloud booking system can be accessed via https://pontyclun.schoolcloud.co.uk/ to make a booking from 6pm Tuesday 8th October until 6pm on Tuesday 15th October. Once you have booked your appointment you will receive a confirmation email.
Should you have any problems when booking, please contact the school office on 01443 237 833 or email admin@pontyclunprimary.rctcbc.cymru.

Times Tables Rockstars launch day
Wed 25 Sep 2024We are very excited as a school to announce that we have purchased licenses for all our pupils in Year 1-6 to use Times Tables Rockstars. This is an app/website with fun games for the children to practice their times tables and we will be using it both in school and as a homework resource. To launch this we would like to have a 'Dress as a rockstar' day on Wednesday 9th October 2024. We would like to encourage all the children in Years 1-6 to come in dressed as a rockstar, please do not feel you have to purchase anything specific for this day, you can use clothing/accessories you already have or even decorate a plain school tshirt. Your children may wish to have wacky hair, bright clothes, stripey tights, inflatable guitar etc to wear into school. The day will begin with an assembly where the children will be introduced to Times Table Rockstars and during the day they will have time to explore the app/website. In the evening the children will then bring home their login details and an explanation of how to use the system in the house. The link attached gives more information about TTRS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZxZbRVvbYM for you as a parent to understand the system.
Thanks for your continued support

Nursery School Dinners
Mon 09 Sep 2024Universal Primary Free School Meal Provision for Nursery Age Pupils
The final roll-out of Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM) concluded in Rhondda Cynon Taf in April 2024, ahead of Welsh Governments deadline of September 2024.
Since the roll out commenced in September 2022, nursery age pupils’ entitlement to UPFSM has been the term following their 4th birthday, which is in accordance with the Council’s admission policy. The UPFSM funding grant conditions stipulated eligible nursery pupils are those who attend local authority funded nursery provision on a full-time basis (morning and afternoon sessions) and not nursery provision funded part-time by the local authority and part-time by the schools delegated budget.
However, we have recently received confirmation from Welsh Government that from September 2024 pupils attending nursery education on a full-time basis, irrespective of how it is funded are eligible to receive UPFSM.
This means that from January 2025 when our Nursery pupils go full time, that they will be eligible for a Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM) if they have turned 4 and or as soon as they turn 4, as opposed to currently, where they would have to wait until the term after their 4th birthday.
Until this happens, all school dinners are £2.85 daily and are to be paid in advance weekly, please. Your child's 10 digit pupil reference number will be sent to you by the end of this week, once all the children are on our school systems.
Please can we remind all parents that even if their child now receives a Universal Primary Free School Meal (Eligible Nursery pupils through to Year 6) that they could be eligible to access wider support, such as the School Essentials Grant for items such as uniform, kit and stationery (up to £200) plus extra funding for your school.
All schools across Wales will then be entitled to additional funding to provide education and support these children. If eligible families don’t apply for a free school meal through the council it will affect the amount of funding from Welsh Government that the schools receive, meaning the school has less money than it is entitled to in order to provide education and support to your children.
If you think your child may be entitled to a Free School Meal, even if your child is in receipt of a meal under this new scheme, please complete the online application form on the Council’s website Free School Meals or ask the main school office for a paper copy, which we can then scan for you.
Kind regards

Important Information - Please Read
Fri 06 Sep 2024Can we just remind all parents / carers of the following please
Sickness / Absence
The school needs to be notified of ALL absences and associated reasons. This is a legal requirement and we need to code the child's absence appropriately. Please call the school office (01443) 237833, choosing option 1, and leave a message. When leaving your reason please be specific i.e.: stomach bug, headache etc.
Leaving 'unwell' or 'won't be in today or this week' will result in the school calling you to ascertain a reason. Should your child be suffering from vomiting or diarrhoea, they must stay off school for 48 hours following the last bout of illness. Holiday forms are available from the school office or on our website and must be received at least one week before the start of the holiday.
Pupils school records & ParentMail
Please can you ensure that all the information we hold for you as parents/carers eg: contact names, telephone numbers and address details are current and up to date, should we need to contact you urgently, especially in the case of emergencies.
