School Council Pupils Signing the Steel
Redevelopment information
28/5/24 - The window installation is progressing well as are the rest of the internal works previously mentioned. More classrooms have been laid out as more internal walls are put up. Hopefully the drier weather is here to stay for a bit now and the roof and chimneys can finally be finished off too.
8/5/24 - The building is really starting to take shape now, with door and window frames all in situ. The glass will start going in over the next few weeks. The classrooms are being partitioned off, with internal walls going up. The work continues to the outside, with insulation and weather boarding works and the roof is almost complete too. Over the next month the electrical works as well as the installation of sprinkler/fire systems will continue to be installed.
1/3/24 - The pupils in our school council were invited over to the new site today to sign the steel frame, which has now been completed. It was very interesting seeing the progress being made close up and to see how the building takes shape in the early stages before the walls and interior decor are added.
28/2/24 - The roof is now beginning to take shape, with the first layers having been laid. Scaffolding now surrounds the building to enable work to the external walls to start.
29/1/24 - Scaffolding has now started to be erected at the north end of the building to enable work to start on the roof area and the second floor concrete floor is starting to take shape.
8/1/24 - During December, despite the bad weather hampering progress, the steel frame has continued to grow and the new perimeter fence has now been completed. New drainage works have continued and the chimney vents have now all been placed on the roof.
27/11/23 - The steel frame erection works are now well and truly underway and our new school is beginning to finally take shape. You can see the staircases going in to the back block of the school.
22/11/23 - The first of the upright steels has been put in place today and so the framework starts to be assembled.
20/11/23 - The steel work is now being laid out in situ, ready to start being assembled
8/10/23 - The foundations for the kitchen and main hall are being laid out the other side of the wall nearest the admin block. You can also see the foundation area of the central heart space within the main building as well as the pit for the lift.
5/10/23 - Retaining wall work continues with the concrete base now in.
19/9/23 - The weather hasn't helped over the last week, with water having to be pumped out of the trenches, so that work can continue to lay the base of the wall.
14/9/23 - Work continues on the boundary wall, building the framework and shoring up the walls, ready for the next layer of wall foundations to be laid.
4/9/23 - Over the Summer work has continued with the grounds being cleared and levelled. Trenches for the retaining wall have also been dug and footings and the boundary work have begun.
12/7/23 - And it's down. The last walls of the building came down today, very sad to watch. They have also managed to remove the date stone in one piece and it will be stored safely for the time being. The rest of the ground will now be cleared and the cellars dug out, ready for the next stage in the process.
10/7/23 - Demolition moving quickly now and they are round to the last wing of the school. They have removed the boys entrance stone sign with our school motto on and will try and clean and preserve it for later. They are now trying to remove the main school date sign, very carefully and in one piece, again, in order to preserve it for the future. The last section of the school is due to be down by the end of this week.
7/7/23 - The scaffolding very quickly came down this week and sadly the main part of the demolition got underway. The middle block from the old junior building came down first, swiftly followed by the front section of the left hand wing, including chimney, which the children watched with amazement as it was almost picked up off the roof whole and brought down.
The rest of the left hand wing was down by the end of the week and they are almost half way round the building now. New images below.
3/7/23 - The roof tiles are now being carefully removed and the stripping out of other materials to be recycled is continuing. Pupils from the School Council were allowed a supervised visit last week to look inside and removed some of the old tiles, stones etc to keep as part of the school archive. See the new images of inside the old school.
16/6/23 - Scaffolding is now being erected so that they can begin removing the roof tiles and further surveys are being carried out prior to the next stage of the main demolition works.
12/6/23 - Demolition has now properly begun on the old building with the removal of those areas without roof tiles.
7/6/23 - The cabins are down and the ground will continue to be cleared. Clearing has begun on the old building as well. It has to be hand stripped from the inside out, continuing to separate out all the materials.
5/6/23 - A more permanent fence has now begun to be put up to protect us from the building works. Final surveys have been successfully completed and work has continued to empty the inside of the cabins and the demolition has begun.
26/5/23 - Temporary fences have gone up separating the old school site from the current and the cabins have begun to be hand stripped from the inside, separating the different materials used, recycling were able. During the half term break a more permanent fence will start to be erected between the two sites.
16/5/23 - And they are in! The last of the classes are unpacked and the children went in very excitedly this morning. This is now how our school will be for the duration of the new build. There are obviously mixed emotions on having to leave our old school building, but we are also excited to watch the new build begin.
12/5/23 - The old junior block and the last of the classrooms are now all packed and ready to be moved to their new, but temporary home for the next couple of years. The second of the demountables is ready to be moved into over the weekend.
A dividing fence will be erected over the weekend separating the old school off, so that they can begin working on the next stage of the demolition.
The entrance in Maes Y Felin is now closed to everyone to allow for works access only and our Palalwyf Avenue entrance is back in use. We look forward to watching the building work continue.
21/4/23 - The second demountable block is now in situ and is now undergoing it's fit out, preparing the classrooms ready for the remaining junior classes to move into.
The ground outside the block will also be levelled and will link up with the new area that runs down the side of the infant. This will then allow a safe playing area for all the children whilst the build continues and the old building is fenced off ready for the next stage of the work.
The pathway around that side of the building will be re opened once the second block is ready. The play area outside the first block is almost finished and the children have begun using part of it.
Over the coming weeks the staff and children will start getting packed up ready for their move.
31/3/23 - Please be aware that when we return after the Easter break the entrance to Palalwyf Avenue will still be closed to parents/visitors.
In addition to this the route around the Infant building will need to be reversed as the corner of the year one classrooms will be blocked to allow for the foundations for the second demountable to be completed.
The second block of demountable classrooms should be arriving towards the end of the Easter holidays, so things should look different again when we return to school after the break.
15/3/23 - The children are now all in their new classrooms and settling in well. Groundworks are continuing on the second site, in preparation for the second lot of demountable classrooms.
6/3/23 - Work is progressing to fit out the new demountable classrooms and develop the ground around this site. The staff and children are getting packed up ready for their move at the end of the week.
The main school entrance at Palalwyf Avenue is now closed to all parents/carers and visitors as per the recent ParentMail communication.
13/2/23 - The first demountable classrooms have arrived over the weekend and have been assembled. Over the coming weeks the inside of the classrooms will be set up and prepared ready for the first lot of classes to move into.
The ground outside the block will also be levelled.
3/2/23 - The groundworks for the first demountable classrooms block is well under way, whilst the second site area continues to be cleared, including the pond area.
The new temporary play area has now been opened up, allowing more space to move around the building again.
27/1/23 - The second cabin is now gone and they have started to clear the rest of the ground.
A new temporary play area is being made down the side of the infant block, ready for when the rest of the site gets fenced off.
23/1/23 - Demolition of the second cabin is now underway whilst they continue to prepare the ground area outside our year one and two classrooms.
13/1/23 - The first cabin is now down and they are preparing the ground for the next stage.
9/1/23 - We've returned to school after the Christmas break and demolition is now underway on the old Year two cabins.
