Parent Governor Vacancies
Tue 13 Sep 2022The governing body of your child’s school has three vacancies for parent governors, one with effect from 28th September 2022, one with effect from 2nd October 2022 and one with effect from 17th October 2022, and is looking for parents who are interested in these roles. A parent governor is a person with parental responsibility for a pupil attending the school.
The role of governor is an important one, governing bodies are responsible for a variety of functions connected with the effective running of the school, including curriculum, budgeting and staffing matters. You will be supported in these duties by other experienced members of the governing body, the headteacher and the Governor Support Officer.
The Authority will provide relevant support and information. Training is provided free of charge. The Welsh Government requires all new governors to undertake Induction training and training on Use of Data within a year from their date of appointment. This is a mandatory requirement. The governing body works together as a group attending a minimum of three meetings per year. If elected you will serve for a period of four years. If your child leaves the school during this time you do not have to stand down. Should you wish to end your governorship at any time you may do so by giving written notice.
Your child will be bringing home a nomination form tonight. If you are interested in becoming a parent governor, please can you complete the form and return it to the school office by Friday 23rd September.
Before completing the form please ensure that you comply with the disqualification regulations given on the back.
The Governor Support Team values your interest. We would welcome the opportunity to answer any queries you may have, about becoming a governor, by telephone, e-mail or face-to-face (at your local school). They can be contacted on 01443 281162 or email to - governor.support@rhondda-cynon-taf.gov.uk

Welcome back for the Autumn term - Important information
Tue 06 Sep 2022We have had a successful first day back and it has been lovely to see all our pupils in school.
Can we just remind all parents / carers of the following:
School Times
Please can we remind you that the school day runs from 9am to 3.30pm
The gates open from 8.50am in the morning to enable a staggered entry and pupils can go straight into class. No pupils should be dropped off prior to this time (unless attending Breakfast club). Staff are in classrooms prior to 8.50am and will therefore not be supervising pupils on the yard.
Please DO NOT enter the school grounds via the staff car park entrance by the library.
End of day pick up times are:
Nursery - 12.50am
Reception - 3.20 pm
Year 1 - 3.25 pm
Year 2 - 3.25 pm
Juniors - 3.30 pm
Parents/carers are not permitted into school buildings, therefore if you would like to speak to your child’s class teacher, please can you email them directly.
School Dinners
School dinners are £2.55 per day payable in advance. This is paid through the online RCT portal. A link to this can be found on our website www.pontyclunprimary.org.uk
To pay for dinners you will need your child's unique 10-digit number which can be obtained from the school office.
Please note that any payment arrears are sent off to RCT on a regular basis.
Can any outstanding dinner monies please be cleared as soon as possible. Should there be any reason why this is not possible, please contact the school office in confidence. Many thanks.
Sickness / Absence
The school needs to be notified of ALL absences and associated reasons. This is a legal requirement and we need to code the child's absence appropriately. Please call the school office (01443) 237833, choosing option 1, and leave a message. When leaving your reason please be specific i.e.: stomach bug, headache etc. Leaving 'unwell' or 'won't be in today or this week' will result in the school calling you to ascertain a reason. Should your child be suffering from vomiting or diarrhoea, they must stay off school for 48 hours following the last bout of illness.
Pupils school records & ParentMail
Please can you ensure that all the information we hold for you as parents/carers eg: contact names, telephone numbers and address details are current and up to date, should we need to contact you urgently, especially in the case of emergencies.
All school communications/messages to parents/carers are sent out via our ParentMail system. All parents/carers are set up on ParentMail when your child starts school and any changes to email addresses and mobile numbers must be made through your own individual account.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your child's school record and ParentMail account are kept updated.
Office
The office will be closed on Wednesday afternoons for administration duties. Should you need to contact the school, please either leave an answer phone message or send an email to admin@pontyclunprimary.rctcbc.cymru and we will get back to you in due course.
The office is also shut for lunch every day between 12 noon and 1pm. Should you need to collect or drop off your child around lunchtimes, please arrive either just before or just after these times. If that is not possible, please make prior arrangements with the office to ensure someone is available to let you onto the school grounds.

End of term letter
Wed 20 Jul 2022What a year we have all had! With fantastic team work from all in our school community, we managed to keep our school open and continue the education that our children deserve,
It has been wonderful to hold the normal summer time events- things that are part of school life, that parents and children enjoy and things that make important memories. It's only when you can't do these seemingly simple activities, that you understand how essential they are.
We would like to thank you for bringing in blankets for our Jubilee picnic and we really appreciated the gazebos, fans and ice lollies in the extreme heat of Monday and Tuesday!
As we move forward next year to a new, exciting chapter of the school's life, we will continue to keep you updated on the phases of the new school build. The information we have at the moment is that the contractors are looking to put the first temporary building up around the end of October/November. The junior building will remain in use until around the end of February next year. Please be aware, that these are not absolute dates and may change as the build progresses. As usual, any changes to any dates will be communicated via parent mail.
We wish you all a fantastic, restful summer and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 6th September.
Many thanks for your support as always.
Miss Harwood

Can I also say a big thank you for the magnificent efforts of all the staff during this latest half term. We again, had weeks where Covid and associated sickness hit the staff particularly hard, and, at times have been down members of staff, with no supply staff available, also, due to Covid. All remaining staff have willingly stepped up, taking on different duties, changing hours, classes and even phases, all to ensure the school has stayed open and no classes needed to home learn. I would also like to say thank you to parents and carers for your continued understanding in these matters. We wish you a lovely Easter and look forward to seeing you back after the break
Kind regards
Mr H Roberts
